I am hoping that my story will keep some other "laid off" person ENCOURAGED. Although it took 2 years to find another job after being "laid off" - I never stopped looking. My secret: (1) Look around you to see what is needed (2) Evaluate your skills to see if you can fill the need or obtain the necessary skills (3) Approach the organization or person you want to work for (4) Offer to work for "free" so that they can "evaluate" your skills (4) And keep looking - always have a plan just in case you get "laid off" again :).

Please share the "link" below with anyone who may be going through what I went through for two years. Sometimes WESH Channel 2 has an "advertisement" on before the story - so please be patient for a few moments! :)

***I am from Phenix City, Alabama but due to NOT being able to find a job there, I had to take this TEMPORARY job in Orlando, Florida. I am very "homesick" and hope to be able to return home to a job SOON :)***

Patrenia--That's really the whole point. Diversify income sources as a way of countering the decline in job stability.

I think we need to embrace the concept as well, and use it as an opportunity to pursue paths we've only thought about in the past. There may be a better chance we'll find ourselves taking a few chances than playing it safe. A nice bonus too is the fact that by persuing multiple income sources, we'll also develop new skills and contacts. That can only help.

This is great information. We've got to transition from the old way of thinking - ONE job. I remember hearing the late Jim Rohn speak of this. That was about 8 years ago. I wish I would have listened and started building THEN. There are very few "stable" jobs left.

What's great about this technological age we are in is that just about anyone can go online and start selling something - whether its stuff on ebay, selling your writing on blogs or other forums, selling opinions to companies looking for advice about their websites there are a number of different avenues to create multiple incomes.

Not that it's easy, but at least there are options out there. Every little bit helps.
