Hi Kevin

You are so right in all of your point in this post. Dough it is very sad that it has to come to financial crisis that we have enough time to spend it with our families and to take care for our health it is a good thing that we get the opportunity for getting closer with our family or to make a career change. I was also jobless for some time now and made some big changes in my life during this time so all in all it was a good thing.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers Alex

Ryan, in some ways I think hobbies are THE way to find a career. The advantages are that you move at your own pace and do so toward something that you have a genuine interest in.

Passion is such a huge part of finding the right career and that isn't always possible to determine when you're coming out of high school and choosing your college major.

Sometimes you just have to get out there and try things and see how they work for you.

I like the last one of finding hobbies and agree with you about finding future career direction through them. When I graduated college with a degree in finance I couldn't find work so I worked as a bartender and taught myself web development, which then allowed me to create some income producing websites and also played a role in my current job where I'm spearheading our new company website. Free hobbies and skills are a great way to beef up the resume and have fun at the same time.

This is an awesome and very timely post that goes to the heart of why recessions are as much about the GOOD in life as about the bad.

Many people are finding out they have an identity crisis when a job that has defined them for so long suddenly disappears. They are discovering that they are much more than they considered as people and in terms of their relationships with others.

My hope is that these important lessons stay with us long after this recession is over, and that we can continue to align what's truly important to the actions we take.
